Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled smartphones at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs seized 60 unmanifested smartphones at Lok Ma Chau Control Point with a value of about $330,000 yesterday (August 10).
 
     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing lorry declared to carry plastic parts on board at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening and found 60 unmanifested smartphones inside the driving compartment of the lorry. The arrested 44-year-old male driver will be charged with attempting to export unmanifested cargo and will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (August 12).
 
     Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
