The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited the Air Mail Centre (AMC) of Hongkong Post at the Hong Kong International Airport today (August 11) to gain a deeper understanding of the Centre's operation.

Mr So started the visit by receiving a briefing from staff of Hongkong Post. The AMC was opened in 1998 with a gross floor area of 2 hectares. It handles inward and outward air letters, packets, parcels, Speedpost and transit mail on a 24-hour basis throughout the year. In 2014-15 and 2015-16, Hongkong Post handled 43 892 and 44 195 tonnes of air mail respectively.

Accompanied by the Postmaster General, Mrs Jessie Ting, Mr So then toured the X-ray Checking Zone, the Air Letter Section, the Speedpost and Parcel Section and the Transit Section in the AMC to learn more about their daily operation.

During the visit, Mr So chatted with front-line staff and commended them for providing services in a professional manner. He encouraged all Hongkong Post staff to continue to provide quality, efficient and professional postal services to the public.
