CE joins Sport For All Day 2016 activities (with photos)

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, joined the public for healthy activities at Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre in Sai Kung District today (August 7) as part of Sport For All Day (SFAD) 2016 organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).
 
     To tie in with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and to help heighten the Olympic atmosphere, this year's SFAD has adopted "Stay Active Scale New Heights" as the slogan to encourage people of all ages and different abilities to participate in various sports activities, and to call on the community to show support for Hong Kong athletes excelling in this major international competition.
 
     Accompanying Mr Leung at today's SFAD activities were the Acting Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Raymond Fan; the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Yeung Tak-keung; the Assistant District Officer (Sai Kung), Mr Marco Chu; and the Chairman of the Sai Kung District Council's District Facilities Management Committee, Mr Chan Kai-wai.
 
     The guests officiated at the kick-off of a parent-child mini-game before watching a cheering team's performance. They also enjoyed a boccia participation session for players including people with disabilities.
 
     This is the eighth consecutive year that the LCSD has organised SFAD to promote sport for all. The department has offered over 200 free recreation and sports programmes at designated sports centres in the 18 districts today, ranging from health talks and exercise demonstrations to fitness corners, sports activities for parents and children and for people with disabilities, and other sports participation activities.
 
     The LCSD has also made available the majority of its leisure facilities for free use by the public as another major attraction today.
 
     To call for more support in the community, the LCSD invited the 18 District Councils, National Sports Associations and district sports organisations, as well as major residential estates and privately run sports clubs, to organise activities and offer facilities for the public and their residents or members to enjoy.
    
     SFAD 2016 is co-organised by the Department of Health; the Sports Medicine Team of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; and the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability.
