SCED meets with Brunei trade minister in Laos (with photo)

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, met with the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei, Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, in Laos today (August 5) ahead of the 1st ASEAN Economic Ministers – Hong Kong, China Consultations (AEM – HKC Consultations).

     At the meeting, Mr So exchanged views with Mr Lim on the Hong Kong, China – ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. He expressed gratitude to Brunei for supporting Hong Kong, China in forging closer ties with ASEAN since ASEAN’s proposal to enter into an FTA with Hong Kong, China, which was initiated under the chairmanship of Brunei as the ASEAN Chair in 2013. Mr So also emphasised the committed goal of ASEAN and Hong Kong, China since the commencement of negotiations which is to conclude the negotiations within 2016.

     In the evening, Mr So will attend the gala dinner of the 48th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
 
     Apart from attending the 1st AEM – HKC Consultations, Mr So will also meet with the economic ministers of various ASEAN member states tomorrow (August 6).
