Update on cluster of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae cases in Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital gave the following update today (July 28) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients with Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) with IMP-carbapenemese in a medical ward:

     The hospital has continued with the screening procedures and confirmed one more female patient aged 96 as having CRE with IMP-carbapenemese without clinical symptoms. The patient has already been discharged.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up. The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.
