Cluster of Norovirus cases in United Christian Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of United Christian Hospital made the following announcement today (July 25):

     Seven child patients (six males and one female, aged 4 months to 16 years old) and two staff members in a Paediatric Ward had presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms since July 19. Appropriate tests were arranged and the results for six children were confirmed to be positive for Norovirus. All of the child patients are in stable condition and are being treated under isolation. One of the two staff members is currently on sick leave while the other one has resumed work after recovery.

     Infection control measures at the ward have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other child patients in the ward are under close surveillance. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
