Correctional officers stop person in custody attempting escape

     Correctional officers today (July 24) stopped a person in custody in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) attempting escape.

     The 35-year-old person in custody has been admitted into PMH for treatment of his illness since July 22. Preliminary enquiry revealed that at around 3am this morning, correctional officer found the person in custody attempted to struggle free of his handcuffs and escape. He was instantly stopped by the correctional officer.

     The Correctional Services Department has referred the incident to the police for investigation and appointed a board to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.

     The person in custody was convicted for an offence of "Assault occasioning actual bodily harm."
