Twenty-four building plans approved in May

     The Buildings Department approved 24 building plans in May, with seven on Hong Kong Island, eight in Kowloon and nine in the New Territories.
 
     Of the approved plans, 10 were for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, four were for commercial developments, three were for factory and industrial developments and seven were for community services development.
 
     In the same month, consent was given for work to start on nine building projects that, when completed, will provide 41 426 square metres of gross floor area for domestic use, involving 200 units, and 71 550 sq m of gross floor area for non-domestic use. The department has received notification of commencement of work for 12 building projects.
 
     The department also issued 20 occupation permits, with three on Hong Kong Island, three in Kowloon and 14 in the New Territories.
 
     Of the buildings certified for occupation, the gross floor area for domestic use was 143 719 sq m, involving 2 441 units, and 98 045 sq m was for non-domestic use.
 
     The declared cost of new buildings completed in May totalled about $8 billion.
 
     In addition, four demolition consents involving four building structures were issued.
 
     The department received 3 432 reports about unauthorised building works in May and issued 861 removal orders on unauthorised works.
