EPD promotes "Use Less, Waste Less" message at Hong Kong Book Fair (with photos)
***************************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is participating in the Hong Kong Book Fair again this year by promoting the "Use Less, Waste Less" and "Clean Recycling" green messages through an exhibition, a game kiosk and other activities.

An EPD spokesman said today (July 20), "The EPD participated in the Book Fair in 2013 and 2014 to promote the green habit of bring your own bag (BYOB). Following the full implementation of plastic shopping bag charging across the entire retail sector since April 1 last year, BYOB has become a daily habit of many more in the city. This year, the EPD is joining the Book Fair again to further strengthen publicity and public education efforts, so as to instil a green culture in Hong Kong people's daily lives."

The EPD's exhibition and game kiosk are located at booth No. 3B-A13 in Hall 3B of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (close to the performance stage of Children's Paradise and near the Grand Hall). In addition, there will also be a "selfie corner" where the public can take photos with their favourite environmental slogans or messages and share them on social media platforms to demonstrate their support for green living. Workshops conducted in the EPD's booth in the past years were popular with different Book Fair goers and this year's free upcycling workshops will be held continuously for six days. With the guidance of tutors, participants can have hands-on experience in turning waste into resources. Further to the green musical instrument workshop held today, details of other workshops are as follows:

Dates       Topics of the workshops
------        ----------------------
July 21     Upcycled photo kaleidoscope
July 22     Plantable recycled paper
July 23     Eco tote bag made with recycled T-shirt
July 24     Upcycled photo kaleidoscope
July 25     Eco tote bag made with recycled T-shirt

The workshops will be held six times at 10.30am, noon, 2pm, 3.30pm, 5pm and 6.30pm on the respective dates. Each workshop session will take about 60 minutes. Prior registration for the limited seats will be accepted 30 minutes before the start of each session on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Members of the public participating in the Book Fair and other events held during the summer are encouraged to BYOB and exercise prudence when obtaining leaflets and publicity materials. They are also advised to pay attention to separating waste at source and clean recycling, so as to live up to the spirit of 'Use Less, Waste Less' together," the spokesman added.
