***********************************************************
The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness of the European Commission, Mr Jyrki Katainen, this afternoon (July 14) at the Chief Executive's Office to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

Mr Leung said that Hong Kong and the European Union (EU) enjoy close economic and trade ties and the two have established strong bilateral relations. Noting that Hong Kong would play an active role in facilitating the implementation of the country's Belt and Road Initiative, he encouraged EU enterprises to leverage the unique advantages of Hong Kong and its "super-connector" role to open up the vast business opportunities in the Mainland of China and countries along the Belt and Road.

He expressed the hope that both sides would continue to enhance exchanges and co-operation on various fronts.
