******************************************************************************************
Twenty persons in custody who completed the first Foundation Certificate in Florist and Floriculture Assistant Training course at Lo Wu Correctional Institution were presented with certificates today (July 12) in recognition of their efforts and achievements.

Officiating at the presentation ceremony, the Vice President of the Merchants Support for Rehabilitated Offenders Committee, Dr Lisa Cheung, spoke with the trainees about her views on life by drawing on her professional experience in restoring Chinese works of art. She also encouraged them to be focused on their work and to work hard. The trainees were eager to share with Dr Cheung their feelings and talk about what they had learnt in the course.

Among the graduates is Ah Kwan (false name), who will be released next year. She completed the course and received a certificate. She said she learnt not only how to run a florist business as well as the practical skills and floriculture theory required by a florist, but also how to co-operate and communicate with others, which would be beneficial in her future career development. She expressed the wish that she could share the achievement with her family members, and also appealed for community support for rehabilitated persons.

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) offers more than 40 market-oriented vocational training courses to persons in custody in various institutions, covering construction, food and beverage, retail, business, beauty care, logistics, laundry services, computer applications, environmental services, health care and transport, to enhance their professional skills for reintegration into society. The CSD will continue to offer various forms of market-oriented vocational training to enhance the employability of persons in custody and improve their chances of finding a promising job opportunity upon release.
