Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, at a media session after attending the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence presentation ceremony today (July 8):

Reporter: So it has been a few months. What has really been found regarding student suicides?

Secretary for Education: As I said, the Committee (on Prevention of Student Suicides) has spent the first few months digging into the details of cases and trying to identify reasons and the repeated pattern of those reasons against certain backgrounds. I would expect that as an interim report, there should be more organised analyses of those specific reasons and, sort of, the different ranking and weighting of those reasons that are causing the problem. That will be part one in terms of the reasons for the student suicide cases. The second one would be, I would also look forward to the Committee, even at the interim level, to see whether there will be sufficient ideas to formulate some mid-term solutions or ideas for actions to be suggested. We should not be waiting until the final report comes out if those interim solutions could be put into action.
