CE commends teachers for teaching excellence (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence Steering Committee:

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (July 8) presented the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence (CEATE) (2015/2016) to 17 teachers at an award presentation ceremony held at the Central Government Offices. The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, presented the Certificate of Merit to 24 teachers.

     Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the CEATE Steering Committee, Mr Duffy Wong, said, "The awarded teachers have designed challenging and diversified curricula to meet different learning needs of students, effectively arousing their learning motivation and enhancing the effectiveness of learning and teaching."

     Mr Wong said that since the launch of CEATE in 2003, more than 800 teachers from different themes have been awarded and the award has won community-wide recognition. He said he believed that the awarded teachers would actively disseminate their excellent teaching practices with a view to inspiring other fellow teachers and fostering a culture of excellence in the teaching profession. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope that CEATE would identify more outstanding teachers to work together to strive for the continued advancement of education in Hong Kong.

     This year's CEATE covered three themes, namely Curriculum Leadership, Mathematics Education Key Learning Area and Special Educational Needs. Assessment of nominations focused on teachers' performance in the four domains of professional competence, student development, professionalism and commitment to the community, and school development. A total of 99 nominations were received. Six nominations (comprising 17 teachers) were presented with the Award for Teaching Excellence while six nominations (comprising 24 teachers) were presented with the Certificate of Merit. The assessment results are available on the CEATE website (www.ate.gov.hk).

     Officiating guests at today's ceremony also included the Permanent Secretary for Education, Mrs Marion Lai; the Chairman of the Education Commission, Mr Tim Lui; the Chairman of the Curriculum Development Council, Professor Kenneth Young; the Chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Mr Rock Chen; and the Chairman of the CEATE Assessment Working Group (2015/2016), Professor Horace Ip.

     Sharing activities on excellent teaching practices of CEATE (2015/2016) will be rolled out in the coming school year. Details will be announced on the CEATE website.

     Nominations for CEATE (2016/2017) will be accepted from July 11 to October 7. It will cover Arts Education Key Learning Area, Science Education Key Learning Area and Guidance and Discipline (including Career Guidance). Details will be uploaded to the CEATE website on July 11.
