CJ to visit the Mainland

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, will lead a delegation to Beijing, Shenyang and Dalian tomorrow (June 27) for a visit at the invitation of the Supreme People's Court to exchange views with Mainland judges on judicial issues. He will return to Hong Kong on July 1. This visit forms part of the ongoing exchanges with the Mainland courts and in this regard the Chief Justice also visited the Supreme People's Court in 2011 and 2013.

     During the visit, the Chief Justice will call on the Supreme People's Court and the National Judges College, the Second Circuit Court of the Supreme People's Court, Liaoning Higher People's Court and Dalian Intermediate People's Court. He will make courtesy calls to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Committee for the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. He will also deliver a speech at the National Judges College.

     Members of the delegation will include the Chief Judge of the High Court, Mr Justice Andrew Cheung; Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court Madam Justice Carlye Chu; Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court Madam Justice Maggie Poon; Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court Mr Justice Thomas Au; and the Judiciary Administrator, Miss Emma Lau.
