The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is staging a large-scale Hong Kong exhibition from today (June 12) for six days at the fourth China-South Asia Expo in Kunming, Yunnan Province. With extensive use of 3D models, a variety of pictures, relevant exhibits and videos, the exhibition introduces Hong Kong's excellence and charm as Asia's world city to Mainland residents.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Hong Kong pavilion together with the Vice-Governor of the People's Government of Yunnan Province, Mr Liu Huiyan, today, the Director of the GDETO, Mr Albert Tang, said, "The exhibition aims to showcase the strengths of Hong Kong in various areas and the latest developments of Hong Kong's economy, finance, trade and business, transportation, logistics, professional and legal services and tourism. The exhibition also presents Hong Kong's creative industries including design, comics and animation to Mainland residents and the delegations of South Asian countries, and promotes Hong Kong as the hub for culture and creative industries in Asia.

"The pavilion also has a designated area for showcasing well-known brands and products of Hong Kong enterprises and 3D models of student works from the Hong Kong Design Institute, with the aim of displaying the vibrancy of Hong Kong to Kunming and fostering mutual understanding of Hong Kong and friendship between the people of the two places.

"The exhibition will also complement the Mainland's 'go global' strategy and promote Hong Kong's position as the 'super-connector', playing the role of an investor, an intermediary and a supporter in fostering Belt and Road construction."

Speaking on Yunnan-Hong Kong co-operation, Mr Tang said that Yunnan and Hong Kong have had close economic ties with frequent contact over many years. Hong Kong has all along been one of the major sources of foreign investment in Yunnan and the province's key trading partner. With the country's policy of encouraging enterprises to "go global" under the National 13th Five-Year Plan, internationalisation of Yunnan enterprises has become inevitable, bringing new opportunities for the two sides.

Hong Kong is known for having a business-friendly environment, free flows of capital and information, free trade and a free market economy, a deep pool of international talents, world-class infrastructure, and a sound and independent legal system, as well as a low tax regime. Against this backdrop, it serves as an ideal platform for Mainland companies to "go global".

Mr Tang said, "I encourage Yunnan enterprises to set up offices in Hong Kong, to take advantage of Hong Kong's various business services, and to learn from the experience of the world's leading corporations in Hong Kong to further expand their business internationally."

Organised by the GDETO, the exhibition, with active participation of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Innovation and Technology Commission, the Airport Authority Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation and the Hong Kong Design Institute, is being staged at Hall 11 of the Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kunming from June 12 to 17, during which the Hong Kong Police Band will give multiple performances. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition.
