The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, concluded her visit in Washington, DC, yesterday (June 8, Washington, DC Time).

In the morning, Mrs Lam visited the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, as well as the Freer and Sackler Galleries. Both venues are managed by the Smithsonian Institution. The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is a museum of contemporary and modern art, and its collections and exhibitions currently focus on the post¡VWorld War II period, with particular emphasis on art made during the past 50 years. The Freer and Sackler Galleries are national museums of Asian art in the US and house the largest Asian art research library in the country. Mrs Lam was given tours and briefings on the operation of these museums, and both sides expressed keen interest in exploring opportunities for collaboration with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and M+ at the West Kowloon Cultural District.

Mrs Lam then called on the Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the US, Ms Wu Xi. Mrs Lam provided her with an update on the latest developments in Hong Kong and thanked the Embassy for the support and assistance provided to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, DC and to Hong Kong residents in need while in the US.

In the afternoon, Mrs Lam met with the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ms Nancy Pelosi, as well as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Mr Matt Salmon, to provide an update on the latest political and economic developments in Hong Kong, before departing for New York in the afternoon.

Mrs Lam will begin her visit to New York today (June 9, New York Time). During her stay in New York, she will speak at breakfast and luncheon events organised by think tanks and deliver a speech at a gala dinner. She will also visit an urban revitalisation project and art institutions.
