The following is issued on behalf of the Financial Services Development Council:

The Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) today (May 30) released its third annual report for the period from April 2015 to March 2016.

In 2015/16, the FSDC released eight reports covering various areas of high potential in the financial services industry. These include the asset management industry, booking of financial transactions, exchange-traded derivatives, exchange traded funds, equity crowdfunding and Chinese enterprises that are "going global".

In collaboration with other stakeholders, the FSDC also sponsored or participated in a wide range of marketing campaigns, including the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong, the "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" campaign in Chicago, the "In Style.Hong Kong" Symposium in Jakarta and business luncheons in Mumbai and Seoul, to promote Hong Kong's position as a key global financial centre. In addition, an FSDC delegation visited Shanghai in January to learn more about its latest developments in the financial market.

To enhance capacity building for home-grown professionals, in addition to organising a Career Day, the FSDC held a series of forums under its Practitioner Speakers Series, at which speakers from various sectors of the financial services industry shared their experience with university students and young graduates on how to develop a career in financial services as well as the skill sets required by financial institutions.

The Chairman of the FSDC, Mrs Laura M Cha, said, "Looking ahead, Hong Kong will have a significant role to play in the continuing internationalisation of the Renminbi and in the new Belt and Road Initiative. These will create vast business opportunities for the financial services industry and provide new job opportunities for graduates and market participants.

"The FSDC will continue to engage market experts to undertake research and promotional activities. I am thankful to members for their dedication and contributions in enhancing the further development of different areas of our financial services industry, which include, among many others, financial technology and green finance."

About the FSDC

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government established the FSDC in 2013 as a high-level, cross-sectorial advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.

The FSDC has set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee, as the five streams of its work.
