Detector dog adapts to new life
*******************************

Smugglers often try to avoid detection at Hong Kong's entry control points by using perfume, plastic, containers and other items to mask the odour of their controlled items, but they are no match for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department's Quarantine Detector Dog unit.

Archie, a 10-year-old beagle, was one of Hong Kong's first Quarantine Detector Dogs and was part of that elite team for eight years before retiring in 2015.

News.gov.hk spoke to his handler, Elvis Yiu, who explained the special bond between an officer and his canine partner and why he decided to adopt Archie when his service ended.

The story appears on news.gov.hk today (May 29) in both text and video format.
