CAS Annual Exercise 2016 successfully completed (with photos)

The annual exercise of the Civil Aid Service (CAS) 2016 has been successfully completed. Some 500 officers and members participated in regional exercises organised by the Kowloon Region, the New Territories Region, the Tactical Force and the Hong Kong Region on May 1, 8, 15 and 22.

This year's exercise, codenamed "Chimpanzee", was held to test and assess members' search and rescue skills, equipment operating skills (including for the new digital communication system), incident management ability and overall operational efficiency. In addition, the exercise also centred on members' efficiency in emergency culling of chickens in local farms during an outbreak of avian influenza and required the members to follow the prescribed procedures for putting on and taking off personal protective equipment.

The exercise, which took place at the CAS Headquarters, Yuen Tun Camp, Tai Tan Camp, the Hong Kong Training Centre and the countryside, included simulations of search and rescue in landslides, floods and mountains as well as tree clearance, casualty evacuation and poultry culling.

To further enhance the operational efficiency of members, the CAS may refine the training programmes and operational procedures based on the exercise reports and recommendations submitted by the regions.
