Almost 400 events for "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign held (with photos)
***********************************************************

The "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign concludes successfully today (April 30).

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, announced the launch of the large-scale public participation "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign on November 16 last year.

The five-month campaign, which began on December 1 last year, provided a platform to unite the community.

With the full involvement of government departments, the business sector, academia, district and non-governmental bodies, almost 400 events were organised which enabled the public to appreciate different aspects of Hong Kong and inject positive energy into society.

Mrs Lam said, "Apart from encouraging everyone to appreciate the city in which we live, the 'Appreciate Hong Kong' Campaign also helped us to reflect on the many factors contributing to our success, to show gratitude for Hong Kong, to better understand Hong Kong and to add value to the city.

I would like to thank various sectors for their positive response and staunch support. Through the activities organised by various organisations, I believe Hong Kong people are able to appreciate Hong Kong more - a beautiful, energetic, caring and efficient city, and a home which belongs to us and nurtures us with numerous opportunities."

Apart from events and activities, the publicity drive included a television and radio Announcement in the Public Interest (API), posters, giant wall banners and souvenirs to spread the message.

The Campaign website registered more than 1,000,000 hits and over 260,000 page views.

Seventeen private and non-governmental organisations provided much-appreciated support, including the televising of the API at more than 190 venues such as outdoor and indoor electronic screens at housing estates as well as commercial and residential properties, and displaying messages in inside taxis. The Campaign also received sponsorship to place advertisements on buses and to produce T-shirts.

"All those who helped us and who took part have shown great spirit and dedication to our city, and for that I thank them very much," said Mrs Lam.

"I hope that everyone in society continues to consolidate these forces beyond the campaign period to instill a positive spirit in the community."

"Appreciate Hong Kong" is the third territory-wide public participation campaign by the current-term government. It built on the positive momentum of the 'Hong Kong: Our Home' Campaign in 2013 and the 'Bless Hong Kong' Campaign staged by the Commission on Poverty in 2014.

The first 10 highlight events of the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign were: Ocean Park x Chinachem Group Learning + Fun Day at Ocean Park; Hong Kong Disneyland Resort "We Did It" Award Scheme; the 50th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo - Bringing Love to the Society; Enchanting Museums; Home Market Shopping Fun Fun Fun; Farmfest 2016; Hong Kong Marathon Carnivals 2016; Open Days of Disciplined Services Training Academy; Food and Culture - Together; and WKCD Freespace Happening - Enhanced Version.

The second batch of 10 highlight events comprised: TWGHs 'iRun' - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2016; International Chinese New Year Parade; Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival 2016; Hong Kong Masters (Equestrian) 2016; Shanghai Commercial Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2016; Hong Kong Flower Show 2016; the 13th Infrastructure Building Competition for Secondary School 2016; Hong Kong Observatory Open Day; Hong Kong Sevens 2016; and Elderly Home Visit.
