Update on cluster of Influenza A cases at Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement about a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A (H3) at a male long-stay ward, the spokesperson for Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok made the following update today (April 27):

     One more 59-year-old patient in the ward and two staff members have presented with respiratory symptoms.  Appropriate tests were arranged for the patient and the test result was positive for Influenza A (H3). The patient is being treated under isolation and is in a stable condition, while the two staff members are on sick leave.

     Admission to the ward concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
