Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,023 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 73 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (April 18).
     During the operation, a total of 344 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
     A total of 863 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 160 for other traffic offences.
     Besides, four pedestrians and 30 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
     Statistics revealed that a total of 714 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to March 2016, of which 218 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 38.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
