As part of its ongoing efforts to attract overseas talents to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) reached out to students in Italy to promote Hong Kong as an ideal place to study and work.

On April 14 (Italian time), Deputy Representative of the HKETO, Brussels, Miss Alice Choi, briefed a group of 50 international students from the University for Foreigners of Siena.

The University for Foreigners Siena is a public university in Siena near Florence in Italy, specialised in the teaching of Italian. Its undergraduate degree courses, master degrees, master programmes, postgraduate schools and certifications of teaching competences are open to both Italian and foreign students. It also teaches several other languages for tourism, translation, economics, legal and sociology professionals.

At the briefing, Miss Choi elaborated on Hong Kong's unique advantages under the "one country, two systems" principle since 1997 and on its role as an international business and financial centre, a leading offshore Renminbi business centre as well as a "super-connector" between Mainland China and the rest of the world.

Miss Choi said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government welcomed talents, professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world to work and stay in Hong Kong with a view to enhancing the city's competitive edge in today's globalised economy. There are plenty of opportunities for graduates to establish their professional career in the city. She also explained various talent admission initiatives including the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) and the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. Her briefing was followed by a lively question-and-answer session, during which students asked many questions about Hong Kong and living conditions in the city.

On March 10, Miss Choi gave a similar briefing to a group of international students from the Luxembourg School of Finance, the Department of Finance of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg.
