The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Bureau of Cyber Security of Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) jointly held the first Hong Kong-Mainland Cyber Security Forum today (April 12) to promote the development of cyber security technology and industry in both Hong Kong and the Mainland.

The forum attracted some 200 information security related professionals from the Government, research/academia, professional organisations and the information security industry.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, said, "The emergence of information technology, like cloud computing, big data analytics and financial technology (Fintech), brings us new opportunities as well as cyber security threats. The increasing cyber security threats pose challenges that Internet service providers and users have to address.

"We must join hands to enhance our ability to safeguard against cyber security threats."

He added, "Cyber security professionals of the Government and the industry should keep abreast of the trends of cyber attacks and the response mechanism, and strengthen information sharing and regional co-operation in order to tackle the new and ever-changing cyber security threats."

The forum comprised four sessions in which information security experts shared views on a range of hot topics including the current cyber security landscape, information security and challenges of cloud computing and big data analytics, as well as security risks and measures associated with Fintech.

Prior to the forum, the OGCIO and the Bureau of Cyber Security of the CAC signed a collaboration agreement which was witnessed by Mr Yang and the Deputy Director of the CAC, Mr Xu Lin. The agreement aims to enhance co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland in promoting exchanges and experience sharing among information and communications technology enterprises and experts of the two places, tackling emerging cyber security threats and challenges, nurturing cyber security talents, and promoting the awareness of cyber security in the community.
