Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, at a media session after attending the Legislative Council Finance Committee special meeting today (April 8):

Reporter: Was it necessary to inform the Federal Aviation Administration that the person involved did not actually go back to departure hall to reclaim that particular baggage? Otherwise, people would perceive that special treatment was given to the Chief Executive's daughter.

Secretary for Security: I think the overriding principle is that all hand-carried baggage brought into the departure restricted area of the airport has to pass through the standard security check, which means that having checked the baggage, it has satisfied the relevant requirement that this baggage will not cause any injury or harm to either persons or to the aircraft. This is the important thing. If there is any doubt on whether the baggage contains articles or substances that might cause injury to the passengers or (harm) to the flying safety, then it will have to be checked and handled in accordance with the security procedures. In this case, the baggage in question has been examined, X-rayed and it has passed the relevant security check. And so, it is safe.
