Operational event at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station
**************************************************

An operational event at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station (LNPS) was reported today (April 5) on the website of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Co Ltd (DNMC), a spokesperson for the Security Bureau said today.

On April 2, Unit 2 of Phase 1 LNPS was in normal operation when station staff who were working on a defect at the air-conditioning system of the electrical building caused the unplanned closure of four valves for the ventilation filter system. The staff concerned took immediate remedial measures and restored the equipment to its normal standby mode within four minutes. The event was classified as a "Below Scale Licensing Operational Event" (i.e. "Level 0" event) on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, and has no effect on the safe operation of the nuclear power station, the health of the workers, the nearby public or the environment. All nuclear generating units at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Site remain in normal and stable operation.

The DNMC would disseminate on its website (www.dnmc.com.cn) news pertaining to the operation and safety issues of both the Guangdong Nuclear Power Station and LNPS for the information of the general public.  Details about this event can be viewed at the "operational events" section under the "nuclear and radiation safety information" webpage of the DNMC website.
