Correctional officers stop fighting among persons in custody

Correctional officers stopped a fight between two groups of persons in custody at Tong Fuk Correctional Institution yesterday (April 2).

At 6.15pm, a dispute broke out between two groups of persons in custody while playing volleyball in the exercise yard.  They then push each other and some of them chased and fight among themselves. Officers at the scene immediately tried to stop them and called for reinforcements.

Subsequent enquiry revealed that a total of 18 persons in custody were suspected to have engaged in the above incident.  They have been segregated for further enquiry. Among them, three persons in custody sustained minor injuries on shoulder and head. They were treated at the centre hospital and needed not be transferred to public hospital.

The case has been reported to Police for investigation. The department is closely monitoring the situation and will take appropriate follow up action.
