Government statement

In response to comments made by the spokesman of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council today (March 30) on some Hong Kong people who openly announced the establishment of an organisation advocating the "independence of Hong Kong", a Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government spokesman gave the following statement:

The Hong Kong SAR is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China. Any suggestion that Hong Kong should be independent or any movement to advocate such "independence" is against the Basic Law, and will undermine the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong and impair the interest of the general public. The SAR Government will take action according to the law.
