LandsD launches mobile map application with voice-overs
*******************************************************

A free mobile map application, "VoiceMapHK", was launched today (March 15) by the Lands Department (LandsD) to help users, especially those who are visually impaired, to retrieve geographic information about surrounding areas.

Making use of the voice-over feature of smartphones, "VoiceMapHK" allows users to locate their current positions through voice-overs. It also provides information about orientation and distance, and searches for nearby buildings, facilities, MTR access points, bus stops and more. Additional features of route planning and real-time navigation may also be incorporated in the future.

The application, available in both Chinese and English versions, operates on iOS 8.1 or higher operating systems. Users may search for "VoiceMapHK" in the iPhone App Store for direct download. For more information, please visit www.landsd.gov.hk/mapping/en/VoiceMapHK/index.htm.¡@

"VoiceMapHK" is a step further by LandsD to introduce digital inclusion geographic information. It comes after "MyMapHK", which was rolled out in June 2014 and has been well received with more than 120,000 downloads.
