The Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF) is featuring a "Special Focus on Hong Kong" showcasing the vibrancy of Hong Kong's film industry to Japanese movie lovers. This is the fifth year in a row that the OAFF is running the programme with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo).

To mark the occasion, a "Hong Kong Night" was held this evening (March 10), during which "She Remembers, He Forgets", directed by Adam Wong, was shown to some 300 movie fans.

Speaking at the "Hong Kong Night" reception, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Sally Wong, said that the film industry is the flagship of the creative industries in Hong Kong.

"Our movies and film talents have won over 300 international awards in the past decade. Moreover, Hong Kong was chosen as the filming location for some major international productions, and more than 140 overseas productions are shot each year in Hong Kong," Ms Wong said.

She also noted that the high-quality post-production services and film financing activities in Hong Kong might be of interest to the Japanese film industry.

Emphasising that the Government is keen to support and promote the further development of the film industry, Ms Wong pointed out that the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, announced in his 2016-17 Budget an additional injection of $20 million to the Film Development Fund to subsidise the promotion of locally produced Cantonese films for distribution and publicity in the Mainland.

At the reception, Ms Wong was joined by Hong Kong film talents whose works have been selected for screening in the film festival.
