Update on cluster of Drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Shatin Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Shatin Hospital (SH) gave the following update today (16 February) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Drug Resistant Acinetobacter in a male medicine and geriatrics ward.

     The hospital has continued with the screening procedures and confirmed 11 more male patients (aged 66 to 98) as Drug Resistant Acinetobacter carriers. Seven patients are still hospitalised under isolation with stable condition. Two patients have already been discharged and two patients passed away due to their underlying diseases.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. SH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
