The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO) continued its 2016 Chinese New Year celebration in St Petersburg and Moscow, Russia on February 2 and 3 respectively.

To celebrate the start of the Year of the Monkey, the London ETO co-organised a business seminar and reception in St Petersburg and a reception in Moscow. Both events were attended by representatives of the government and business sectors.

Key speaker at the two events in St Petersburg and Moscow was the Director-General of the London ETO, Ms Priscilla To. She briefed the guests on the latest developments in Hong Kong, including the most recent initiatives relating to the financial services sector, and highlighted Hong Kong's unique advantages and the strong links between Hong Kong and Russia.

In St Petersburg and Moscow, Ms To described the promising trade and financial ties between Russia and Hong Kong, and encouraged more Russian companies and financial institutions to set up offices and raise capital in Hong Kong. Noting Russia's long history of culture and art, she also raised the possibility of stronger co-operation between the two places on the cultural front.

She also took the opportunity of the two receptions to highlight the potential opportunities arising from the Belt and Road initiative. She said, "As a major nation along the 'Belt and Road', Russia is no doubt a key player in realising the full potentials brought by this initiative. Hong Kong looks forward to providing services for Russian companies in project financing and capital formation as well as trade facilitation.

The Chinese New Year events in Russia were co-organised by the London ETO, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Russia-Hong Kong Business Association.
