Suspension of passenger fuel surcharge
**************************************

The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) today (January 20) announced that airlines will not be approved to levy passenger fuel surcharges from February 1, 2016 onwards for flights originating from Hong Kong until further notice.

Passenger fuel surcharges allow airlines to partially recover the increase in operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices. In view of the fact that aviation fuel prices in the past months have greatly reduced and stabilised to a reasonable level and that the corresponding fuel surcharges have been greatly reduced, the CAD considers that the levying of passenger fuel surcharges is not warranted. The CAD will no longer approve airlines to levy passenger fuel surcharges for tickets issued from February 1, 2016 onwards for flights originating from Hong Kong until further notice.
