The Planning Department and the Civil Engineering and Development Department today (January 19) launched the Stage 3 Community Engagement for the "Planning and Engineering Study for Housing Sites in Yuen Long South - Investigation" to gauge public views on the draft Recommended Outline Development Plan (RODP). The Community Engagement will last for three months.
The overall objective of the Study is to examine and optimise the development potential of degraded brownfield land (over 100 hectares) in Yuen Long South (YLS) for housing purposes and other uses with supporting infrastructure and community facilities, and to improve the existing environment.
Located to the immediate south of Yuen Long New Town, Yuen Long South could be developed as a southern extension of the new town and serve as one of the major sources of housing land supply. The development could accommodate a total population of about 85 000 and bring about 10 800 employment opportunities, offering development spaces for housing, commercial, storage and workshop uses as well as government, institution and community facilities to serve the residents in the development area and nearby developments and villages. The development is also planned with various green initiatives to create a sustainable, green and livable community.
Activities of the Stage 3 Community Engagement will include a community forum, briefings and roving exhibitions. The Government has already held two stages of community engagement for the Yuen Long South development. The Stage 2 Community Engagement was completed in mid-2014. Taking into account the public views received, the planning and engineering considerations, and the results of technical assessments, the draft RODP for the Yuen Long South development has been formulated.
