Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,056 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 106 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island yesterday (January 18).
     During the operation, a total of 348 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
     A total of 883 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 173 for other traffic offences.
     Besides, 139 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,881 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2015, of which 875 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 40.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
