The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) will hold the New Energy New Generation Solar Car Competition and an electric vehicle exhibition on Sunday (January 10) to showcase 12 innovative solar cars developed by students and the latest developments of electric vehicles as well as the application and benefits of renewable energy. Admission to the activities is free. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
The competition is divided into the tertiary education category and the secondary education category. It attracted eight teams from universities and four teams from secondary schools. There are five awards, namely the renewable energy capture and conversion efficiency award, the energy efficient design award, the innovative design award, the best team spirit award and the grand champion award, under each category.
The electric vehicle exhibition will display the latest models of electric buses, trucks, saloon cars and motorcycles as well as charging technologies and facilities available in the market. There are 16 exhibitors, which include government departments, public organisations and private organisations.
The activities will be held at Lakeside, Hong Kong Science Park Phase II, Sha Tin. The competition will be run from 10am to about 3.20pm while the exhibition will be open from 9am to 6pm.
The New Energy New Generation Solar Car Competition is one of the Energy Saving for All youth competitions organised by the EMSD. It aims to enhance young people's knowledge and interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to provide a platform to showcase their research capabilities in innovative engineering.
