The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, visited the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) this afternoon (January 8) to learn more about the operation of the department and to take the opportunity to meet its staff.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Cheung first visited the Sai Kung District Leisure Services Office to understand more about the leisure services and facilities it provides in the district. He learned that a total of 317 persons with disabilities are employed as civil servants by the department and chatted with one of them to know more about his daily duties and work experience.

Subsequently, Mr Cheung met with the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, and the directorate staff. He was pleased to hear that the LCSD is committed to providing quality leisure and cultural services commensurate with Hong Kong's development as a world-class city and events capital.

Mr Cheung then visited Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre and talked to front-line staff to learn more about the daily operation of the sports centre. Officially opened in September 2015, the sports centre provides a wide variety of leisure facilities, including the first outdoor climbing wall meeting the international sports climbing competition standard in Sai Kung District, an indoor jogging track, a children's playroom and multi-purpose rooms.

Mr Cheung continued with a visit to Tiu Keng Leng Public Library adjacent to the sports centre. The three-storey library occupies more than 2,900 square metres and houses a collection of about 190,000 items and provides more than 140 local and overseas newspapers and periodical titles for readers with different types of interests and needs.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung met staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on relevant departmental issues to learn more about the challenges front-line staff face when they serve the public. He praised colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue to provide high-quality, efficient and professional leisure and cultural services so as to enrich the lives of the public.
