HAB and CoY urge public to suspend use of one model of adaptor distributed in 2011 (with photo)

The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) and the Commission on Youth (CoY) today (December 30) urged the public to suspend use of one model of adaptor distributed for free in 2011 to avoid risks.

The product is marked with the CoY's logo, its name "Commission on Youth" and its website "www.coy.gov.hk". Four thousand adaptors purchased by the CoY had been distributed to the public a few years ago.

Considering that the design of the adaptor is similar to that of a problematic one recently announced by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), the HAB immediately delivered the adaptor for examination by the EMSD which confirmed that the adaptor may expose live metal parts posing a potential electrical hazard to users. Therefore, the HAB and the CoY urged the public to suspend use of that model of adaptor, and a recall is being arranged.

Members of the public may call 3509 7037 during office hours for details.
