Transcript of remarks by SLW on operation of a private elderly home in Tsuen Wan
*******************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the operation of a private residential care home for the elderly in Tsuen Wan before attending a meeting of the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Retirement Protection today (December 30):

Reporter: Mr Cheung, what does the government know about the elderly home? And what is the government doing to help the elderly people?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Social Welfare Department has stepped in and, in fact, provided assistance to everybody. We have managed to contact all the 49 residents and their families. And, in fact, the operator has managed to sort out the financial problem this morning. Obviously, he has managed to get hold of new investment and the money has been deposited through the court to the landlord. So, as far as that problem is concerned, it has been sorted out. But even so, we will keep a close eye on the operation of this home, and provide whatever assistance needed for all residents and their families to the best of our ability.
