"Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive exhibition now at HKDI in Tseung Kwan O (with photos)
***********************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive art exhibition today (December 15) moved to the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), its creative home in Tseung Kwan O. It will remain open to the public until December 28.

Organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the HKDI, the exhibition aims to promote a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the Basic Law. It is the last of a series of exhibitions to mark the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.

The artworks on display were created by 18 HKDI students who used the Basic Law as a source of artistic inspiration. The exhibition showcases a total of 25 artworks including illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics. Students who created the artworks will show up at the exhibition to explain their creative ideas to visitors.

The exhibition includes two large video walls consisting of 30 video screens. With the use of special hand-held viewing glasses, visitors can "discover" the hidden content, such as motion graphics, within some of the "blank" video screens.

The largest artwork is a sculpture entitled "Book of Life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another eye-catching artwork resembles a giant padlock. Entitled "Lock", the sculpture is an artistic vision of the Central Government Offices building standing at the top of a lock, symbolising the Government's obligation to protect property rights under the Basic Law.

The exhibition is being held at Multi-function Room A002-3 on the ground floor of HKDI Tower A at 3 King Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O. Opening hours are from 10am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Admission is free and souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

Members of the public can also see the artworks on the Discover the Basic Law website at www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk or via the mobile app "Discover the Basic Law".
