CS expresses sorrow at death of Dr Elsie Tu (with photo)
********************************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (December 8) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Elsie Tu.

"I was grieved to learn of the passing due to illness of Dr Elsie Tu," said Mrs Lam.

"Our acquaintance started in my university days, when I was a student participant in some social actions led by her. Dr Tu was an exemplary champion of social justice who commanded respect for her valiant words and deeds.

"Though our paths seldom crossed to have direct co-operation in my over 30 years of public service, I always kept my eyes open for news about what she had done and said. Her selfless love and commitment for Hong Kong withstood the test of time. During the past two years of discussions on constitutional development in Hong Kong, Dr Tu, already a centenarian at the time, not only supported the Government's efforts for democratic progress in accordance with the law, but also gave me no little encouragement in private. I never failed to find inspiration from my visits to Dr Tu in the last few years, and was invariably impressed by her earnest care for Hong Kong's younger generations.

"Elsie, you will be sorely missed, always."
