Counting of votes for District Council Ordinary Election completed smoothly (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

     The counting of votes in 363 constituencies of the 2015 District Council Ordinary Election was completed smoothly at 5.55am today (November 23).

     The counting of about 1,467,000 ballot papers was completed in about 6.5 hours after polling ended last night (November 22).

     "The election was concluded in an open, honest and fair manner. Polling and vote counting were overall smooth. The Electoral Affairs Commission is satisfied with the arrangements," the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, said after the announcement of all election results.

     The Commission will review various electoral arrangements. A report will be submitted to the Chief Executive within the next three months.

     The Commission thanked the 15,000 polling and counting staff and various government departments involved in the election, especially the Registration and Electoral Office for making various arrangements for electors and candidates to facilitate the smooth conduct of the election. The Commission also thanked all the electors for voting, and the candidates and their agents for their co-operation.
