SED to attend international education conference in Singapore

     The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (October 13) for a duty visit to Singapore where he will attend an international education conference jointly organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Singapore and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He will also meet some officials of the country's new cabinet.

     At the invitation of the MOE of Singapore, Mr Ng will attend the OECD-Singapore Conference on Higher Education Futures. The conference will bring together some 500 participants from over 40 countries and economies, including senior government officials, higher education administrators and academics, for exchanges of ideas and best practices with a view to mapping and meeting future demand for higher education.

     Mr Ng will meet officials of the MOE of Singapore to exchange views on education issues of mutual concern. He will also visit a number of education facilities, including a kindergarten, a high school and the National University of Singapore.

     During his visit, Mr Ng will take the opportunity to meet some Hong Kong academics and students currently in Singapore.

     Officials accompanying Mr Ng on his visit to Singapore will include the Deputy Secretary for Education, Dr Catherine KK Chan; the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Higher Education), Ms Sharon Ko; and the Political Assistant to the SED, Mr Jeff Sze. They will return to Hong Kong on October 15.

     During Mr Ng's absence, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
