CS and Governor of Victoria visit PMQ (with photos)

The Governor of Victoria, Ms Linda Dessau, accompanied by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited PMQ in the afternoon today (October 11) as part of her official visit to Hong Kong. Also attending were Head of Create Hong Kong, Mr Jerry Liu; Chairman of PMQ Management Co Ltd, Mr Stanley Chu; and Executive Director of Hong Kong Design Centre, Dr Edmund Lee.

The Governor and her delegation received a briefing on the vision of PMQ as a design hub and its operation and management. They visited the Designers-in-Residence, which are quarter units redecorated to accommodate guests sponsored by PMQ, followed by visits to a few designer stores and studios as well as an architectural office and a fabrication laboratory. They also toured around the exhibition spaces and the market place at PMQ.

Mrs Lam said, "During my official visit to Australia last month, I expressed our wish to strengthen collaboration between Hong Kong and the State of Victoria in the area of design, and I received very enthusiastic responses. My colleagues are already following up with the Victorian Government and the Melbourne City Council with a view to materialising projects for collaboration. The Governor's timely visit to Hong Kong, and to PMQ in particular, will certainly add impetus to the cooperation between Hong Kong and the State of Victoria in this area."

While in Melbourne during her official visit in September 2015 at the invitation of the Australian Government, Mrs Lam called on the Premier of Victoria, Mr Daniel Andrews and the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Mr Robert Doyle, to exchange views on forging stronger ties between Hong Kong and the State of Victoria. She also attended a dinner hosted by Governor Dessau at Government House in Melbourne.

Before the visit to PMQ, Mrs Lam hosted a lunch for Governor Dessau and her husband, Mr Anthony Howard, at Victoria House, the official residence of the Chief Secretary for Administration.
