Exhibition proposals selected for sixth Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme: "Flash!"
*******************************************************

The Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (September 30) the five selected exhibition proposals for the sixth Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme, entitled "Flash!". Submissions of exhibition proposals were invited from January to May this year.

The adjudication panel has selected five proposals from the 62 proposals received based on criteria such as relevance of the proposal to the objective of the Scheme and the selected venue and its culture or history; creativity, diversity and feasibility of the proposed exhibition and activities; the artistic merits of the participants and exhibits and how well they fit in with the ideas of the proposal; the organisational and planning ability of the participating units; the public appeal of the exhibition and activities; and the feasibility of the financial budget. The selected groups are:

1. Proposal name: "North Point Dream Properties Limited"
Art group: In the Wonderland
Brief introduction of the proposal: The project is a thematic exhibition about the local housing problem. Hunting for a dream property usually involves scrutinising a building structure both internally and externally, as well as considering the community history and facilities in the neighbourhood. This exhibition delves into the cultural characteristics of North Point in a similar manner, while touring around the district with art.

2. Proposal name: "7-Paperholic!"
Art group: Hong Kong Open Printshop
Brief introduction of the proposal: The project will invite seven local artists from various disciplines to explore the history, culture and architecture of North Point. Using paper as the medium, each artist will create a series of works related to this community.

3. Proposal name: "Smiling Stone"
Art group: 2Bliss
Brief introduction of the proposal: The project strives to observe and discover the happy moments of Ping Shek Estate in Kwun Tong District, thus connecting the people inside to those outside the community, and crossing the boundaries of ages, districts and backgrounds. It is hoped that the audience could relax their anxious faces and regain their smiles while appreciating the fruits of the project.

4. Proposal name: "Forget Me Not"
Art group: 9 X 9
Brief introduction of the proposal: The project explores the sustainability of traditional craftsmanship and its viability as a medium of art. Weaving local art, culture, history and craft, the project strives to inject new imagination from the younger generation into the declining tradition of craftsmanship.

5. Proposal name: "No Neverland"
Art group: No Neverland
Brief introduction of the proposal: "No Neverland" begins with the study of five parks situated in Hong Kong Island which are significant in history. With the historical facts, folk stories, literature, misconceptions and fantasies collected, the artists will reconstruct the community in the minds of fellow citizens, thereby inspiring imagination for diversity in city spaces.

The selected proposals will be exhibited during different periods between March 2016 and July 2017 at different venues. Exhibition details will be announced at a later stage at the APO's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/apo/ain6flash/en.

Ends/Wednesday, September 30, 2015
