Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     ATAL Engineering Limited and Degremont were fined $75,000 and $70,000 respectively at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (September 24) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 10 last year in Tuen Mun. A worker was suspected to have fallen into a manhole when he shut down a penstock in a sewage treatment plant and his body was found one month later.
