Registration particulars of electors updated

The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) today (September 4) announced that it has finished processing applications for updating registration particulars from about 400,000 registered electors in this registration cycle. The information in the Online Voter Information Enquiry System (OVIES) ( has been updated.

"From today, registered electors can check their own latest registration particulars by looking up the OVIES or calling the REO hotline 2891 1001. If electors have questions about their registration particulars, they should call the REO hotline 2891 1001 by September 10 (next Thursday) so that appropriate action can be taken before the publication of the final registers of electors on September 25," a spokesman for the REO said.

To assist electors to make enquiries through the REO hotline, the REO will extend the service hours of the hotline from 9am to 8pm from today to September 10, including Saturday and Sunday.

The REO has all along been adopting stringent procedures in dealing with voter registration applications to ensure that the applicants are eligible for registration, and to maintain the accuracy of the information in the registers of electors. When necessary and having regard to the actual circumstances, the REO will require the elector to verify his or her identity in person. For suspected cases of false or incorrect statements in making voter registration, the REO will handle them strictly in accordance with the law, and refer such cases to the law enforcement agencies for follow-up as appropriate.

"The statutory deadline for updating registration particulars in this cycle closed on August 25. In accordance with the law, applications for updating registration particulars received by the REO after the statutory deadline will be processed in the next registration cycle," the spokesman added.
