Commissioners inspect water treatment facilities in Sha Tin and Government Laboratory (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead Found in Drinking Water:

     Chairman and Commissioner of the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead Found in Drinking Water, Mr Justice Andrew Chan Hing-wai, and Commissioner Mr Alan Lai Nin, inspected water treatment facilities in Sha Tin and at the Government Laboratory today (August 21).

     Mr Justice Chan and Mr Lai inspected the Sha Tin Water Treatment Works and related facilities, as well as the Sha Tin South Fresh Water Service Reservoir, to gain a better understanding of the water treatment processes, and water quality testing and monitoring. The Commissioners then visited the Government Laboratory in Ho Man Tin to learn about the process and technology in the examination of water and pipe samples.

     Meanwhile, the Commission Secretariat has set up a website (www.coi-drinkingwater.gov.hk) for future dissemination of information about the Inquiry to the public and for communication with interested parties.

     The Commission of Inquiry was appointed by the Chief Executive in Council under the Commissions of Inquiry Ordinance (Cap. 86) on August 13, 2015 to ascertain the causes of excess lead found in drinking water in public rental housing developments; to review and evaluate the adequacy of the present regulatory and monitoring system in respect of drinking water in Hong Kong; and to make recommendations with regard to the safety of drinking water in Hong Kong.
