The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village today (August 12).

The theme of this yearˇ¦s summer camp is ˇ§Be a Leader Fight Crime Together.ˇ¨ The officiating guests took the opportunity to urge JPC members to help the Police combat crime and promote anti-drug messages at the launching ceremony.

Mr Law pointed out that this year marked the 41st anniversary of the JPC since its establishment. As of today, the JPC Scheme has more than 200 000 members, while the number of non-ethnic Chinese members reached a record high of more than 3 000.

Mr Law believed that effort of JPC has contributed to the reduction of teenage crimes, as the number of juveniles and young persons being arrested for criminal offences continued to drop in the past few years. He encouraged JPC members to continue to help the Police in spreading fight crime messages.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests toured around the camp, visiting the crime prevention booths produced by JPC members of 20 districts. Yau Tsim District, Tsuen Wan District and Western District were awarded the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up of the Fight Crime Booth Design Competition respectively.

Organised by the Police, the annual summer camp aims to enhance JPC members' awareness of crimes and drug abuse as well as to promote positive values through various activities. To engage members with the newly established life planning course, a mini career expo will be staged in the summer camp this year. JPC members are given the opportunity to know more about various industries, such as design, and food and beverage.

About 1 800 JPC members took part in this yearˇ¦s summer camp held from August 11 to 14.
