The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore, Mr Fong Ngai, today (August 12) received a Commission on Youth (CoY) delegation comprising Hong Kong student representatives on a visit to Singapore.

The 48-strong delegation, with students aged between 15 and 25 from various secondary and tertiary institutions of Hong Kong, was briefed by Mr Fong on the HKETO's roles and work, as well as the political, economic and social developments of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries.

Mr Fong said he was glad to see the students share their views enthusiastically on Singapore's developments on various fronts, and that they were excited about exchanges with the youth in Singapore during the trip.

"The future of our city hinges on the quality of young people. We hope to see more of our younger generation visiting ASEAN countries to experience and explore other places and to simply make friends as cultural exchanges are invaluable in this age of globalisation. Understanding other cultures and building friendships help equip our young people with an international mindset," he said.

"Echoing with the 'Belt and Road' initiatives of the Central Government, we are keen to promote more people-to-people exchanges, especially youth exchanges, between Hong Kong and ASEAN countries," he added.

Joining the CoY delegation were Home Affairs Bureau representatives. The delegation will also meet arts groups in Singapore, study its town planning and visit the ArtScience Museum during their trip.
